Donald G McGahan

Biography

Dr. Donald G. McGahan is a well rounded pedologist with a strong foundation in soil morphology, mineralogy, characterization, and classification. He is interested in identifying systematic variation in soil morphology using relationships with climate, vegetation, geomorphology, and geology. Dr McGahan has considerable experience as a soil mineralogist and is interested in mineralogical alterations brought about by the soil forming factors. This is because mineralogical alterations are the primary cause of many important values we measure in soils. He believe that by studying the evolution of soils, relationships vital to addressing landscape scale issues are better understood, and that this knowledge is applicable to site-specific soil management including land use for agricultural, and land use for non-agricultural soils.
