Digitizing the Soil-Veg Database

  1. 9/26/2007: 619 pedons scanned, processed, and inserted into a database. 142 un-published chemical data sheets scanned, but will require some work to process.
    • approximately 25 hours of proof-reading still required
    • In total 18 minutes of time spent per pedon record, including development time. Future projects will require approximately 9 minutes per pedon record.
  2. 11/02/2007: All chemical forms have been proof-read. Remaining tasks:
    • convert horizon designations to modern conventions
    • convert columns from text into numeric where applicable
  3. 12/01/2007: Chemical forms are digitized, but not updated to modern conventions. Profile descriptions have been completely digitized. Remaining tasks:
    • convert horizon designations to modern conventions
    • Split horizon data into specific fields
  4. 05/05/2008: An additional 77 forms have been processed. Remaining tasks:
    • proof-read chemical data form
    • proof-read and chunk profile forms
